Your questions, our answers.

How much vitamin D is too much daily?

The NHS advises adults and children aged 11 to 17 not to take more than 100µg (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day, and children aged 1 to 10 no more than 50µg. Taking too much over a long period can cause calcium to build up, which can damage the kidneys and heart.

Is 4,000 IU of vitamin D too strong?

4,000 IU (100µg) is the most the NHS advises adults to take in a day. That makes it high strength rather than too strong, as long as you stick to one tablet and nothing else with vitamin D. Most adults need 10µg a day, so if you’re unsure, [Vitamin D3 1000 IU] is the everyday option.

What are the potential side effects of taking 4,000 IU of vitamin D?

Vitamin D doesn’t usually cause side effects when you stay within the daily limit. Taking more than 100µg a day over a long period can lead to too much calcium in the blood. Stick to one tablet a day, avoid other vitamin D products, and speak to your GP if you have any concerns.

Who should not take vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3 4000 IU is made for adults and isn’t suitable for children under 11. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, under medical supervision or have a medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional first. If you’re not sure you need high strength, Vitamin D3 1000 IU is the everyday option.

What medications interfere with vitamin D?

Some medicines can affect how your body uses vitamin D. If you take regular medication, speak to your pharmacist or GP before starting a high strength supplement. Avoid other vitamin D products too, including multivitamins and our G1 Nutrition Blend, as one tablet already reaches the 100µg daily limit.
